Belize - Blancaneaux Lodge

It's hard to believe that 2 weeks ago, Chris and I were landing in Belize and on our way to Blancaneaux Lodge. The flight was quick- 2 hours. The drive to the lodge- 2 1/2 hours.

It was interesting driving through Belize. Every little town has a school for the children which they must attend. If the children are caught not at school, the parents get in serious trouble - at least according to our driver. Each school had its own uniform and was pretty small.

The last 45 minutes of our drive was on a very, very bumpy dirt road. More on that road later. We arrived at Blancaneaux and were taken to the main house. (see below) Beautiful, right? We were greeted by the friendliest staff and a special drink.

Once we had signed some papers, we were taken to our cabana. Check out what was waiting for us on the bed:
And what was also waiting for us in our room. A lovely bottle of wine, or at least hubby said it was good, and 2 complimentary spa treatments. Nice.

Here is the view from our porch. There is a river that runs right by the lodge. We were lucky enough to get the part with falls right behind our cabana. Since everything was open air, this river could be heard constantly. It was a little loud the first night, but after that I got used to the sound. After we settled into our room, we decided to check out our surroundings. Below is the garden where they grow most of the food that is eaten at the lodge.

And these are the poor chickens that we probably ate.
They also have a beautiful horse barn where all the horses stay. Isn't it charming?

Out in the pasture, there were two horses that couldn't seem to get close enough to each other. They looked like they were entwined while eating their dinner.And that dear friends is the first installment from the honeymoon. More to come!
